This hand drawn graphic shows a person standing beneath a massive falling wave.
No one makes a promise unless there is something to lose, something that makes us uneasy. Sometimes circumstances just do not go our way, and we either make promises or hope to receive them. Medical diagnoses, legal decisions, relationships - we get news that floods us, crushes us, with little to no hope of turning out positively. But while we do believe that God hears and answers prayer, we still face impossible odds sometimes.
I don't have answers. I only have Resurrection, so no matter what, my eyes will stay fixed on Christ who said, "If I go I will come again." He gave us parables to stress the importance of vigilance - 10 virgins - and told us to keep asking, keep seeking, and keep knocking. He will not give us stones when we ask for bread, but vigilance is required on our part.
So, when the wave begins to fall on you, face it. Let it fall. God knew it was going to happen. Be found in humble prayer when bad news finds you. Let it go. Give it to God. Remember the promise of the Resurrection. Stay transfixed on it.
Remember that Christ is the Way, the Truth, and the Life, and that He made promises. Stay fixed on Him.
Such is life sometimes. Such is faith always.
